Productive ways to start your day

Everyone has their own morning routine. You may wake up and grab a coffee or lie in bed scrolling through Instagram.

But are you really getting the most out of your mornings?

Here are some suggestions to get your day off to a more productive start!

Suggestion #1: Meditate

According to studies, meditation has effects that go past simply clearing your mind. When you meditate, you are warming up your brain to stay focused throughout the whole day.

Meditation reinforces the connections between brain cells. These stronger connections are thought to lead to quicker information processing, improved decision making, and better attention.

Suggestion #2: Set Goals for the Day

Setting and working toward long-term goals is a step toward achieving your dreams. But a large piece of accomplishing a long-term goal is to set smaller goals to work toward each day.

Setting a goal right after you wake up helps you manage your time throughout the day. Your brain starts pieces together your day and what moments you can dedicate to work toward your goals When the day ends you can look back on your goal list to see how much you’ve achieved. This can confirm that you have had a productive day.

Suggestion #3: Move After You Wake Up

Exercise is a natural energy booster. By exercising in the morning, you’ll find yourself more prepared to take on the day compared to just grabbing a coffee and heading out the door.

By exercising in the morning it also gets it out of the way for the day which eliminates the chance of avoiding exercise in the evening.

Suggestion #4: Take a Cold Shower

A cure for morning tiredness is to take a cold shower after you wake up.

What a cold shower does versus a hot shower is raise your adrenaline levels. It works by sending a shock to your system, which initiates your fight or flight response, this raising your levels of alertness in the morning to get you ready to take on the rest of the day.

Cold showers have also been shown to aid in muscle recovery, strengthen your immune system and improve your mental health.

Suggestion #5: Start your day with some protein

Eating a nutritious morning breakfast has plenty of benefits beyond staving off your hunger. When you include protein you increase your bodies feeling of satiation. This can help us feel fuller for longer helping appetite control. Protein plays a significant role in metabolism regulation, muscle repair, our immune system and DNA.

The most important thing about adopting any new morning routine is to stay consistent with it. Avoid trying to do too much at once. Choose one method to focus on and commit to it. Once you feel confident that it’s part of your morning routine, add more to your routine. Before long, your mornings will be your favourite part of the day, and you’ll see stunning productivity benefits that will help you reach your long-term goals.
