Often a barrier to getting started with exercise is not knowing where to start. Our advice is to try a range of things to see what you like. Experimenting is a great place to start. We gain a lot by experimenting in all aspects of life. Here are our top tips to getting started safely.
1) Try one thing at a time. When motivation is high, it’s tempting to try lots of things at once. Maybe you want to register for a half marathon, join a sports team or try some yoga? Instead of doing all of this at once, keep it simple. Try one new thing at a time so you can easily monitor what is a good fit for your lifestyle.
2) Start Small. One of the biggest risks of getting started with exercise is by doing too much to early and getting injured. So start small and build up over time. For example if you would like to run a marathon it's not advised that you start off running everyday. Instead you would start off small and look to build up over time.
3) Aim for something you would find fun. Try to choose an exercise you think you will enjoy. If it turns out you don’t enjoy it, count it as a learning experience
4) If you don't like it you can always try something else. If it turns out after a couple of months that your current exercise regime doesn't fit your lifestyle. You can always try something else
