Consume nuts regularly

Research has looked into the effect of regular consumption of nuts on overall wellness. This has shown that these nutritional powerhouses can help reduce coronary heart disease, hypertension, and even some forms of cancer contributing to overall longevity and quality of life. This is largely due to the unique composition of proteins, fibres, vitamins and minerals found in tree and ground nuts. Almonds are a great choice as they’re high in fibre, and full of healthy magnesium and copper.

Stop smoking

Studies have proven that smoking cigarettes can slash up to ten years off your life. Smoking has also been linked to a decline in memory and cognitive function. The good news is that quitting smoking before the age of 40 can reduce your risk of contracting smoking related diseases by 90 per cent. Throw that box of cigarettes away for a longer life.

Aim for just thirty minutes a day

30 minutes a day of moderate to vigorous physical activity can extend your life by an average of ten years. This could be as easy as a brisk walk around your neighbourhood when you get home.

Get enough sleep

As our schedule demands more time, we can often cut corners in other areas of our lives. One unfortunate area that often takes a hit is our sleep. 7 hours a night is the minimum amount of sleep we should aim for. Sleep is essential in allowing our bodies to fight disease, regulate blood pressure, stave off unhealthy weight gain and improve and maintain cognitive ability.

Eat your five a day

Consuming the right amount of vitamins and minerals may add years onto our lives and fight the ageing process. These can be found in fresh fruit, vegetables, and fish protein, often sadly deficient
